Cost-Cutting: 2024 BOARD CANCELS Mosquito Fountain

Some clarification regarding the 2025 budget and the fountain line-item cancellation, particularly considering recent community communications:

  1. In 2024 pest control vendors recommended retention basin fountains as a way to move stagnant water, inhibit mosquito reproduction, and control the population
  2. $5600 was budgeted for the fountain in 2025, not the $15,000-$18,000 which was implied in recent communications
  3. $5600 was a maximum budget intended to cover both fountain rental and the necessary electrical hook-up
  4. In March 2025 budget-friendly bat houses (which were also recommended by pest control experts for mosquito control) received unanimous approval
  5. In April 2025 after receiving expensive electrical quotes for the fountain hook-up, the cost-effective bat houses were prioritized, and the fountain line item was deemed unnecessary and cancelled.
  6. The fountain wasn’t mentioned in the May 2025 annual meeting presentation because, at that point, there was no contract in place for it’s installation.

Best wishes,

Letter from 2025 Board “Canceling” fountain july 11, 2025

Dear Boulder Ridge Residents,

We want to inform you that the previously approved 2025 budget item for installing a fountain in the community pond has been canceled. This decision was made in consideration of the associated costs and the value it would bring to our community.

The proposed fountain and lighting installation would have required an expenditure exceeding $10,000, with an additional minimum of $3,000 for a new DTE box installation. Furthermore, the annual lease for a fountain would have ranged from $2,000 to $5,000, depending on the provider.

We take responsibility in managing our monthly contributions seriously and are committed to ensuring that funds are only invested in initiatives that provide clear value to our community. After review, we determined that this project does not meet that standard at this time.

Thank you for your understanding and continued support as we work to enhance our community responsibly.

Sincerely,

The Boulder Ridge HOA Board
